OK, this isn't really a review of energy healing. I'm good, actually. Good enough. It's more about a website I stumbled on while at the library that demonstrates some of the same problems I've had as a writer / self-employed person. Laura is a healer who has the pureenergyhealer.com domain, but she also has tried to get business by other means, I found that as enlightening as her readings might be.
Websites
Besides her main page, Laura heals on other sites, too. Here's a list of Laura's other blogs:

http://healingwithlauraschwalm.wordpress.com/
http://healingwithspirituallaws.wordpress.com/
http://healingwithmasterpsychichealerlauraschwalm.wordpress.com/

I assume she's using the method of setting up many sites and interlinking them in order to try to funnel hits to her main website. I've tried this method before, and it can work, but it's so time-consuming that I myself tend to focus on just a couple of main websites that get me most of my hits, like https://www.satisfamily.com. It's also not going to help nearly as much when these are all Wordpress subdomains, but it's still adding links, and that's not a bad marketing strategy.
What isn't so great on the main pureenergyhealer site is the lack of mobile menu, and that should be a strong point for using Wordpress. It must be a weak template that needs to be updated. Also, Laura seems to approve all the spammy comments that tell her how good the articles are. Most of the comments are looking for profile or link hits, not to comment on anything written on the website. In fact, I turn comments off because of these folks. Of course, I could always redesign the website for her, if she asks.
Newspaper
Laura also advertises in a local newsy paper called Natural Awakenings. It's probably a national publication with a local edition (Northeast Florida). If I was in a niche that had a free newspaper dedicated to it, I'd also feel compelled to advertise. The ad she runs calls her a "master psychic healer."
Radio
Laura seems to do a podcast. While I won't be listening myself, those in search of healing might find the "radio" broadcast useful. I like writing more than talking, but I'll have to consider some radio marketing, especially if there's a niche area that would work for me.
Video
Laura's website claims she has updated Youtube videos. However, she only has a half-dozen videos, most of which are from 2013. That's probably when she was trying to market herself, and it's actually around the same time a family member of mine with similar healing powers started making Youtube videos promoting her own healing. Maybe weekly vlogs were all the rage then. These take even longer than the podcasts because you have to look presentable, so I'll probably pass on doing this myself. My fav Laura Schwalm video is entitled Laura Schwalm Anthony Modalities. Who is Anthony? The elephant person, maybe. Also, among all the candles and spiritual stuff are some Tootsie Rolls (2:01). I would not have guessed that Tootsie Rolls had healing power. They aren't even real chocolate. Anyhow, that's why I'm probably not making any self-promotional videos--it's hard to make a video without a whole crew helping out to get it all right.
Laura does seem to update her weekly showings and events schedule, so I assume she's found this to be the most effective marketing tool. Probably more than any of the other methods she's tried over the years, I'd bet. That said, it's good to have a web presence, and be sure to contact me if you're in the healing realm and need some relief from poor website design.
