Cell Towers That Look Like Giant Trees Look Like Cell Towers Dressed Up As Giant Trees

cell tower that looks like a tree

When I got off the #10 bus the other day, I looked up over some apartments and saw what looked a little like an artificial Christmas tree trying to cover a cell tower. I'd never seen this before. Generally, cell towers look like cell towers. This one looked like a cell tower, too, but like it was wearing a disguise. A bad disguise, really. It's not blending in with the other trees because it's three times taller. And it looks like it's mostly dead. Then there's the giant nest on top. I suppose it might be aesthetically pleasing from a mile away, but for the people who live right next door, this doesn't really do the trick.

I understand the concept of trying hide cell towers. They are a necessary evil of our times, like telephone polls were 100 years ago. I've never seen a telephone poll camouflaged, by the way. In theory, I like the idea of trying to hide the huge tower, but maybe it has to be done in a way that makes more sense for the exact location. This looks like some kit was thrown on the tower, but this particular neighborhood does not seem to have pine trees adjacent to the tower, so it looks even more out of place. Perhaps if it was a huge deciduous tree:

Or, you might want to reflect the surrounding buildings in the camo:

I was surprised to see a pay phone in the area, so why not?

Did you know that there's no copyright on the Eiffel Tower? That's why Vegas has a version of one. Why shouldn't we have one in the heart of Arlington?
